The excitement and pleasure of choosing a stallion for your mare and then imagining the race horse that will result from the mating, is the basis of breeding Thoroughbreds. The joy of seeing your foal grow and become a thing of beauty and athletic charm is what drives this part of the industry. The climax of excitement comes with the anticipation and expectation of achieving that history making sales price. This is the part of the industry that very few Thoroughbred enthusiasts think or relate to. We share, and many times introduce, this part of the thoroughbred industry with others, when we partner with them to form a breed-to-sell partnership.
These are the reasons why, Mapleton Thoroughbred Farm partners with individuals for a breed to sell partnerships. Our goal is to produce an Ohio bred yearling to sell at Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton or other select sales for a profit. Each partnership is comprised of one broodmare. The mares are bred to Kentucky stallions with the intent of selling in the commercial market. Mapleton Thoroughbred Farm retains a minimum of 25% of the partnerships. All mares can be acquired at public auction under the direction and management of the farm. They can also be acquired by private purchase or acquired by claiming off the track. The breeding and stallion selection is under the guidance of the farm, advisors and partners.
Should the resulting yearling not bring the anticipated fare price at auction, the partners can try reselling at a later date, as a two year old in training or elect to race it themselves.
The partnerships are dissolved by mutual agreement through auction.
